SMALL BUT HUGE WINS

 Small but huge wins...

Living with clinical depression is not easy.. We always define depression as just being in a constant mood of sadness... But it is more than just sadness. Depression can affect our lives in multiple ways which makes our daily life and functioning extremely difficult..

Some days even getting up from bed  feels like a huge task, a question arises in the mind - what is the point of getting up, is life worth it? But still, despite all this , if you gathered the courage to get up, that itself is a huge win..

Steps like these may seem nothing to others, but for people battling depression , consider this as a huge win because you gathered the courage, you got up and you chose to face the life as it is.

Mornings seem so dull and heavy and facing the mornings feels like mountain climbing. But step by step if we face those mornings, we slowly begin to face the whole day..

If you brushed  your teeth today that's your second win. This may seem silly but it isn't.. Please be proud of yourself for this.

Another way depression shows is through difficulty in concentration. Whether it is work or studies,  it feels like putting our whole energy into it and feeling so drained.. Even then if you managed to read two lines, or do a small bit of work , then you won....

Social settings can feel extremely difficult .. Talking to someone or being part in a conversation keeps us feel drained. On one hand you may want to engage , but on the other, you feel too exhausted to continue... But still if you smiled, if you  gathered courage to even talk a sentence that's your win..

We may feel overwhelmed because of all this.. But instead of fighting these feelings, if we begin to understand ourselves and appreciate small wins, our functioning would become much smoother.. Let's be kind to ourselves.. Our equation of success doesn't always need to be something big like getting a dream job or buying a dream car.

Sometimes it's these small but huge wins that truly matter.

I have always connected depression to waves in a sea, they rise and fall, some are strong, some gentle, but they are waves....they don't stay the same forever.. They are feelings which are temporary ... We will be able to handle these waves even though certain moments feel too overwhelming...

Sending hugs to anyone who needs this..
